Christopher Kuchanny

About Me

Chris Kuchanny is a successful investor and philanthropist who founded and chairs the Revelation hedge fund firm and The Genesis Foundation. Kuchanny started his impressive career in investment banking after earning a degree in economics from the London School of Economics. Later, he established a highly profitable hedge fund. Now, he puts his energy into various projects that promote philanthropy and social good through investment.

Education

Chris attended King Edward's Witley, a secondary school in Surrey, England, thanks to a full scholarship he was awarded. He was a student at the boarding school from 1989 until 1994. Kuchanny's time at King Edward's Witley was formative; he gained an appreciation for business and finance and a strong ambition to pursue a career in trading in London's financial district. Kuchanny attended King Edward's Witley and then enrolled at LSE to study economics in 1995. In 1998, he received a BSc in Economics from the London School of Economics.

Career Background

At ABN AMRO Bank N.V., the third-largest Dutch bank, Kuchanny started his career in 1998 as a proprietary trader in the equities derivatives department of the investment banking unit.

His time with the London branch of ABN AMRO Bank lasted five years. His initial position was that of Special Situations Proprietary Trader, in which he was tasked with assembling and overseeing a group of high-yielding investments through the use of arbitrage, event-driven, and other strategies.

In 2003, after implementing a novel trading strategy, he was promoted to the position of Head of Structured Equity Proprietary Trading, which entailed overseeing the entire company. This included setting up a broker network, developing models, and conducting extensive research and analysis on trading opportunities.

Christopher Kuchanny founded Revelation Capital Management Ltd. in 2004 after accumulating expertise in the investing industry at ABN AMRO Bank, where he established a record of great success. Kuchanny founded and led Revelation Capital as its chief executive officer and portfolio manager from 2004 to 2021. The Revelation Special Situations Fund (formerly known as "Osmium") was established by Revelation Capital and used a wide variety of equity-related strategies across all regions of the world.

The fund's early success earned it recognition and honors, such as the "Best Hedge Fund over 3 Years" 2010 Lipper Award from the Lipper Fund Research Center in the Offshore Event Driven Category. To aid businesses in value creation, Revelation took a novel strategy by employing a combination of their own unique ImProFTM Analysis and a "constructivist" philosophy. Revelation is a trailblazer in the fund management industry, having established the first gold-denominated share class for a hedge fund. As a means of investing in undervalued public-to-private, illiquid public, and/or private equity prospects, Revelation Capital established Revelation Select Investments.

Kuchanny established The Genesis Foundation in 2004 alongside the debut of his hedge fund. This nonprofit was set up to receive up to 25% of the profits from the hedge fund's operations and distribute those funds to various organizations that provide aid to the poor. Its mission is to help people in the community live happier, healthier, and more productive lives by removing the barriers that stand in their way.

Kuchanny has spent considerable time and energy on impact investment or the funding of businesses with a mission to improve society or the environment. Beginning in 2017, he has been amassing a private equity investment portfolio, with a focus on a wide range of constructive endeavors, for which he frequently provides both financial backing and expert guidance. To that end, he founded CKuchanny Consultancy, which provides comprehensive consulting and advisory support, with an emphasis on strategy, to senior executives and boards of directors. His focus was on commercial clients, but he also helped nonprofits and churches. Chris joined the Advisory Panel for the Global Impact & Sustainable Opportunities Funds at Mercer's Private Equity division in January 2022. In this capacity, he advises the private equity division of one of the world's largest institutional investors on shifting from sustainable to impact investment within the fund of funds' underlying portfolio. Kuchanny has also provided funding and other resources to a wide variety of successful public and private businesses, emphasizing those that provide demonstrable benefits to society and the environment.

Activities Requiring Civic Responsibility and Volunteering

Chris Kuchanny is involved in and a member of many different nonprofits. He led a Zambian grassroots organization called Isubilo as its board chairman from 2002 to 2004. The growing number of people infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS in the Ndola area inspired the establishment of this organization.

Kuchanny served as the Director of the Bermuda Investment Management Association from September 2011 until June 2015, among other local endeavors, during his stay in Bermuda. During this same period (January 2011–January 2015), he also established and presided over Bermuda Cares, a nonprofit organization whose goal is to aid organizations that help the poor to bring about long-term change.

Kuchanny reviewed the company pitches of postgraduate students majoring in social enterprise at the University of Surrey's Wates Social Enterprise Fund panel in January 2017. Designed to support novel projects with positive social or environmental impacts, the University of Surrey created the Wates Social Enterprise Fund.

Kuchanny is active in one of the most prominent Angel Investment Networks in the South and East, the Surrey 100 Club. The Surrey Club has provided a valuable service by introducing entrepreneurs and investors for almost a decade and a half. The Surrey 100 Club is a unique form of Angel Investment club because it does not charge presenting firms any upfront fees and instead focuses on providing superior training for businesses raising capital. He joined the Surrey 100 Club in January 2016 and is still there as an Investor Member. He is on the board of trustees for 24-7 Prayer and Waverley Abbey Trust.
